The Club time trial championship held this last Sunday (5th July) on our HCC286 course attracted fourteen riders from the club plus a further four non-members, with Michael Harrison and Alison Hitchock of North Hants RC returning after last year’s event for another go. Ages of the riders ranged from 22 to, our own, John Heath at 80! Numbers were down a bit on last year’s 26 riders with the number of riders from the club dropping but remaining with over a quarter of the participants being female.

Conditions appeared to be excellent for the event with a light cross/tail wind and lovely warm temperatures. Of those who rode last year, all put in a faster run this year, some significantly so. Freja, Lucy and Nigel Hooker all knocked over a minute off from their last year’s times. New member, Karine, took on a TT for the first time, minutes after joining the club. Well done!

In the Ladies championship, Lucy took first place with a 13’32” time, with Sarah second (14’08”) and Freja third (14’59”). In the Open contest our winner, William Mead, of Army Cycling completed the course in a stunning 10’35”, albeit on a TT bike, while second place went to Andy Self of North Hants RC (12’04”) and third shared between our James Meakin and Michael Harrison of North Hants RC (12’28”) so James takes 1st place in the ACC championship.

In the club handicap competition, Ian took 1st place with a time on handicap of 10’52”, with Lucy 2nd (11’42”) and James 3rd with 11’52”.

The riders gathered afterwards at “The Candover” pub for beers and the award of prizes, courtesy of Veloline, Sarah and Charlie.

Our thanks go to timekeepers Dick and Alan, and to marshals Becci and Mike, who ensured the smooth running of the event.
