2026 TT Series – Round 2

Round 2 of our four race TT series was held last Thursday, the 18th June. Conditions were great, warm (but not roasting) sunshine and a gentle tail wind which led to some excellent times. The summer TT series is run on our 5-mile long Candover Valley course, and this round attracted 14 riders, including five non-ACC. Sadly this time we had no female participants: where are you ladies?

In the open contest, Alton CCs own Jamie Allen claimed the 1st place with a great time of 10’53”, that’s an average of over 27mph, with Chris Palmer (no club) second again with an 11’39” run, setting a new PB, and our own Guy Henshaw just a few seconds behind for third place on 11’52”. Andy Chapman just missing out on the third-place spot by 4”

Ian Ransom came out top again in the club handicap competition with an improved time of 10’34”, beating […]

Royal Chilterns Way Off Road Tour, May 2026

We had a larger group of 10 join our annual Off-Road adventure in May which is testament to the growing interest in these trips. We rode the recently launched Royal Chilterns Way, which is a 280km/174-mile off-road journey through the breath-taking Chilterns, blending scenic trails, historic landmarks and charming local gems.

The ride coinciding with the May heatwave, with record breaking temperatures which showed the wonderful scenery off and kept the trails dry and fast.

Our plan was to transport bikes and riders to Reading which would be our start and finish point.

Day 1 we left Reading and headed to Longwick which was a 43-mile trip with the major highlight being the stop at the Cheese Shed at Nettlebed where the legendary cheese toasties were enjoyed by the group. We stayed in a pub on the route and topped up the cholesterol with typical pub fayre and beer.

Day 2 was scheduled to be the […]

2026 TT Series – Round 1

On Thursday last, the  21st May, we held the inaugural event of our summer TT series on our 5-mile long Candover Valley course; the event attracted 11 riders, primarily from Alton CC but with a further two from other clubs, or no club at all. We had just a single female participant, Lucy Elliot, and ages ranged from 38 to 71.

Alton CC’s Lucy Elliot took 1st place in the lady’s competition, albeit with no competition, with a 13’46” run, 11’56” on handicap.

In the men’s contest, Alton CCs own Simon Potter claimed 1st place in the open competition with a great time of 11’07”, with Chris Palmer (no club) second with a 12’04” run, and Tom Sadowski of Velo Club Venta just a few seconds behind for third place on 12’07”.

In the club handicap competition, Ian came out on top with his 10’59” run, just pipping Simon’s 11’07” who, in turn, […]

Annual Dinner and Awards night

Earlier in March, we held our Annual Dinner and Awards night in Beech Village Hall, with Kelvin welcoming us all with funky tunes on his saxaphone, and a fantastic after-dinner speaker, Dan Farrell, who is General Manager of Moulton Bicycles. It was fascinating to learn about the evolution of Moulton bikes, true innovators of small wheeled bikes. The 2025 Hill Climb Champions (Lucy Elliott and Simon Potter) and the Segment Challenge winners (Simon Potter and Ruth Stratford) received trophies, and it was lovely to share a few special mentions which were submitted by our members – people who had gone above and beyond! A really lovely evening, with Paul Watts being awarded Club Member of the Year (again!).

Annual General Meeting

We held our AGM on 3rd December, with around 30 members attending, perhaps attracted by the beer supplied by Triple fff brewery and the mince pies! We ran through the highlights of 2025 and plans in 2026, including racing plans (more to come on this), as well as voting in our Committee members. There was one change, as Howard Garland stepped down from his role as Treasurer after 3 wonderful years, which we greatly appreciate, and Clare Watts admirably stepped in as our new Treasurer. We approved one change to our Constitution, which was to remove the joining fee when someone joins Alton Cycling Club! We also voted to give Guy Henshaw (previous Chair for 5 years) and Owen Pattinson (owner of Owens Cycles) life memberships, as recognition and appreciation of their support to our club over the many years. Owens Cycles has been a sponsor for over […]

Thank you to Owens Cycles

A few of us from Alton Cycling Club went to see Owen Pattinson last Saturday in his Rightbike shop, to thank him for over 20 years of his support and sponsorship to Alton Cycling Club. We gave him life membership and a few gifts to show our sincere appreciation. Thank you Owen!
