On Sunday 13th July, twenty-six riders, including eight ladies, lined up to take part in our first ever ‘social’ TT on the 5 mile HCC286 course up the Candover Valley. For many this was their first ever time trial.
The TT was run under the auspices of Cycling Time Trials, the UK authority for this type of event, and following their regulations.
Along with twenty-two riders from Alton CC, we were joined by Alison and Michael from North Hampshire RC, having a second attempt at the course, and James and Dan from Alton Santo Smashers having a go at a time trial.
This was the second time we had run a TT on this course and again the riders were faced with a testing headwind (where’s that prevailing wind?); nevertheless, all riders from our trial run in May managed to set new PBs. Meanwhile, the sun beat down on us, making for a hot wait at the start but, happily, the village store in Preston Candover proved a source of much needed refreshment at the end of the run.
Simon posted a super impressive time to set a new men’s club record while Sarah beat her previous club best ladies time to set a new ladies’ record.
We also ran a handicap competition, using the VTTA age adjustment system. Ian had posted an excellent non-adjusted time leading to his victory on handicap by a very commendable eighteen second margin.
Prizes, generously provided by Veloline in Farringdon, were presented to the winners in each of the three categories at the post event club social gathering held at the Castle of Comfort pub in Medstead.
It was great to have such a good turnout and we look forward to seeing you back to set that new PB at our next running of the event.
Congratulations to all riders who took part and special Well Done’s to all for whom this was a first ever time trial. Particular thanks go to Dick, Alan, Annie, Ian and Howard for your timekeeping and marshaling of this event.
