Rides and Lockdown – Update
National Lockdown: Prime Minister Boris Johnson has set out the timeline for coronavirus restrictions to be gradually eased in England, with all legal limits on social contact to be lifted by 21 June. The plan aims to be “cautious but irreversible” and at every stage decisions would be led by “data not dates” so dates are flexible.
British Cycling is planning for a resumption of all activities and events in England following the announcement of the roadmap for the easing of lockdown restrictions. However, the current suspension of activities remains in place.
Following a meeting with Sport England and other national governing bodies British Cycling has published information related to its plans for a return to sanctioned activities and events in England. Subject to Government guidance, from March 29 British Cycling-affiliated Club rides or recreation programme rides for up to 15 participants will be permitted.

Ian Cargill and Jim Woods
We are sad to announce the deaths of two long standing members of Alton CC – Jim Woods and Ian Cargill.
Jim joined ACC when he and Wendy returned to the UK ten years ago to live in Alton. Jim quickly became very involved in all areas of the club, leading Sunday Club rides, and taking part in many different club events and tours. We know that many of us will share many happy memories of rides spent with Jim and our thoughts at this difficult time are with Wendy and his two children, Jay and Lucy.
Ian was a former chairman of the club and was recently appointed a life member. He was an outstanding time triallist holding many club records. One of our members said “My earliest memory is of a struggle up the A32 to Four Marks on the way back from a ride. Ian riding a fixie put […]
Road Racing – Give it a go
Do you want to take your riding to the next level – what about competing in road races? British Cycling has an excellent introduction that explains what you need to do. Closed circuit racing offers a safe, but challenging introduction, with races usually lasting around an hour. They can be fast and furious but are great fun and let you learn how to ride at race speed in a bunch. Open road events are held on marshalled public roads with motor escorts front and back and comprising one or more laps. Of course, if you and your club mates race together team tactics might give you and Alton CC a winning advantage! if you’re in the veteran age group (40 years plus) the LVRC organises races by age group – but that doesn’t mean the racing is easy! To find out about races in our area have […]
