Club AGM 2024

Our AGM this year was a super-special one, celebrating the wonderful support we’ve received from Ray Wood and his wife Di Wood, for an impressive 17 years as Club President. Ray hands over this role to Alan Jacob, a treasured and active long-standing Alton CC member – still cycling in his 80s!

The Chair of Alton CC, Guy Henshaw, also stepped down after 5 years in the role, in which he’s driven a lot of positive changes and handed over to Becci May, our first female Chair.  Guy was thanked for his leadership, energy and dedication to the club.  Becci quoted “Our cycling club is a sociable cycling club, and I’m sure being the new Chair will be fun, building on the ideas and interests of our members and attracting new members to join us too”.

With fff beer generously provided by Graham Trott, we also thanked our sponsors, Owens Cycles and […]

Updated guidelines for both riders and ride leaders

Club group rides are a mainstay of our activities and we strive to make them as fun and enjoyable as possible.  Our ride leaders are all volunteers and when leading a ride listed on our rides page they become ‘club officials’, which means they are covered under the club’s insurance provided by British Cycling.  All ride leaders should follow the ride leader guidelines which we originally published in 2021 and have just updated to include a section on e-bikes.

Similarly, all club members riding on our group rides should follow the rider guidelines which have also been updated to include the same e-bike section.

These guidelines are available on the Rides page of our website for all existing and potential members to read.  If you have any concerns or questions on this, please contact our Club Welfare Officer at welfare@altoncyclingclub.org

Thank you

Club Hill Climb Championships 2024 ~ Results

On a fine, but windy morning we returned to the Brockham Hill course for our club annual hill climb championships.  Supported by an excellent team of marshals and timekeepers, 12 riders turned out to pit themselves against the 1.6km course.  Congratulations to all 12 and a big thank you to the marshals and timekeepers for giving up their time.

Here are the results:

Club Kit order window

Our next club kit order window will open on Sunday 1st September for 2 weeks. The range covers all the club items you might need for autumn and winter riding. Delivery timescales should be slightly shorter than our last order (approximately 6 weeks) as Bioracer is less busy in September.

Our full club kit range can be seen here, (you will need to register for an account if you do not already have one).

July annual rides

We have 2 of our annual special ride events coming up that we’d like to highlight (in case you’ve missed the WhatsApp messages – easily done!):

Jim Woods Memorial Audax (Sunday 7th July, 9am start)

Starting at Beech Village Hall and riding out to Leckford on a picturesque circular route. This ride is being organised by John Heath in memory of our good friend and club mate Jim Woods who tragically died in 2020 of a brain tumour. Any surplus money from this event will be donated to Brainstrust, the charity that provides help and resources to people with brain tumours.

Club 100 miler (Sunday 15th July, now Sunday 18th August, 8am start)

Early start from the Butts, and heading West with planned stops at Stockbridge and Wendy’s Community café in Great Bedwyn.

We’re looking forward to these summer social rides! Hope to see you there. More details, including routes, on our
